DE LA SOUL – Buhloone Mindstate
*Buhloone Mindstate* stands apart from De La Soul’s first two albums. It is tighter and more focused. It nods to the jazz-rap vogue by bringing in Maceo Parker and other jazz musicians. A distrust of the record industry also surfaces, foreshadowing the indie movement to come. Yet it remains a wonderfully inventive work, born of the group’s partnership with the eccentric Prince Paul.
