Fake For Real is one of the oldest websites dedicated to rap in France. Its articles have been written from 1997 to the present day. Officially launched in 2005 and completely redesigned in 2025, it is the heir to several influential websites (Nu Skool, Hip-Hop Section, etc.) which, around the year 2000, helped popularize the wave of independent hip-hop and set the tone for rap criticism on the French Internet.
Its author was the editor-in-chief of these pioneering sites, as well as a long-standing member of the webzine POPnews, where he regularly published rap reviews. He has also released four books on the history of rap, all published by Le Mot et le Reste, two of which have been reissued in revised editions. From time to time, he also contributes to other media (press, radio, conferences, etc.).
Fake For Real exists through its articles on music, primarily reviews of North American rap albums. Occasionally, depending on his interests, the author ventures into other cultural fields. The site also lives on through the community of its forum.
